SKUs (stock keeping units) are codes that you can use internally to track your inventory and report on your sales. For example, you can use the Sales by product variant SKU report to help analyze your sales.

SKUs are different from barcodes and UPC codes. For example, although barcodes are unique globally and are issued by a standards organization, you can create your own SKU format and codes for your business. For accurate inventory tracking and reporting, use unique SKUs for each product variant.

HS code

A six-digit code that categorizes each imported good. The first two digits represent the chapter, the middle two digits represent the heading within the chapter, and last two digits represent the sub-heading within the heading.

Hi @dibikshan1 ,

Thanks for reaching out. That is a great question.

A SKU stands for Stock Keeping Unit. A retailer typically uses SKUs to identify their business’s inventory. An SKU is typically eight alphanumeric digits long. Products are assigned different SKU numbers based on various characteristics, such as price, manufacturer, color, style, type, and size.

SKUs aren’t universal; they’re meant to be unique to your business and can be tailored to fit your needs or those of your vendors and customers.

A barcode is the batch of black lines that retailers scan when completing a customer’s purchase. The term barcode is often used in place of UPC, meaning that the two are interchangeable.

Unlike SKU numbers, which are unique to a business or seller, barcodes are assigned to all like products regardless of where they are sold. SKUs also accompany barcodes.

You can learn how to use SKUs to grow your retail business in this guide here. Keep in mind that you do not have to use SKU’s for your store. They are purely optional. If you do not use them or need them, just leave that field empty.
