I have a pretty expensive theme and still my filtering functionality in the webstore is highly inconvenient and very basic. How can I improve filter functionality? I would like to change filter parameters and have different filters for different product collections. It is important that my audience uses filter within the collection they are in.
Hey @FutureFirst
You’re not alone, many merchants invest in premium themes but find the default filtering options don’t go far enough.
Here’s how you can improve it:
1) Use Shopify’s Native Filters with Metafields & Product Types
Shopify’s Search & Discovery app lets you:
-
Add custom filters using metafields (e.g., material, sleeve length, fabric weight)
-
Change filters based on product type, vendor, or tags
2) Use a 3rd-Party Filter App (for More Advanced Needs)
If you want:
-
Collapsible menus
-
Swatches or sliders (for color/price)
-
Real-time filtering without page reload
-
Custom filter sets per collection
Consider using apps like:
Happy to recommend specific tools based on your theme name and catalog size if that helps!

Yes, recommendations are very welcome. My theme name is Broadcast and my catalog is really big and is only growing and it has 8 main categories with 5-8 subcategories each.
