I have a video file that is 90 MBs that I would like uploaded onto my shopify store. How do I get around the 20MB size restriction shopify has setup.
Hi @GildedSocial ,
Thank you for reaching out to the Community! I’m happy to provide some assistance with uploading files to the Shopify admin, to ensure this gets resolved.
As it currently stands, all files should be uploaded to the Files page of the Shopify admin and meet the following requirements:
- Maximum file size of 20MB (megabytes).
- Maximum resolution of 20MP (megapixels).
- The aspect ratio is between 100:1 and 1:100.
- Acceptable file formats include JPEG, PNG, WEBP, HEIC, and GIF.
For more information on file formats, you can check out our Uploading and Managing Files documentation.
While I can certainly understand how this may not be ideal, I’m more than happy to make a note with our Developers. We are always looking for ways to improve the platform and appreciate the feedback. To workaround this, you can look into using YouTube or Vimeo as an alternative to successfully add videos to the shop.
Please let me know if you have any other concerns.
@GildedSocial make sure you video is in .MOV or .MP4 file formats.
If in that format you may need to make the video-duration(length) or it’s quality(resolution) lower to meet the limitation requirements.
@Blair The documented video size limitation is 1GB:
Video file requirementsAttribute Requirement> > | File size | Maximum of 1 GB (gigabyte) |> | - | - |> | Resolution | Maximum resolution of 4K |> | Video length | Maximum video length of 10 minutes |> | File formats | MOV and MP4 |> > https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/shopify-admin/productivity-tools/file-uploads#original-media-downloads:~:text=Video%20file%20requirements
The same limitations should be valid for video added to a product.
https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/products/product-media/product-media-types#videos
Beyond that very large video files require an app or external hosting like on youtube/vimeo or gdrive or dedicate video service.
Yep. Totally in a GIF file type. Is there a way to get around the image uploading limit for GIFS or am I forced to make this an MP4?
Hi @PaulNewton ,
Thank you for providing this clarification! Yes, you can certainly upload a video that’s 90 MB to your products without limitations. You will also want to ensure it meets the requirements you outlined above including:
- Video length: Up to 10 minutes
- Video resolution: Up to 4K (4096 x 2160 px)
- Video file type:
.mp4or.mov
The 20 MB file size limitation I mentioned would apply to files being uploaded to the Files page of the Shopify admin. If however, you’re not looking to upload the video file here and to a product instead, you can proceed without issues.
Please let me know if you have any other questions or require clarification.
Hi @Blair ,
Is there un-limitation for Shopify Plus? I have tried finding the docs which is saying Shopify Plus file size limit but doesn’t find it.
Hi @cupidviet ,
Thank you for reaching out! I’d be happy to provide some assistance with this request. To confirm I’m fully understanding, are you looking for clarification on whether this limit applies to Shopify Plus as well?
We have a great Uploading Files document available, that touches on the various requirements/limitations of both Shopify plans as well as Shopify Plus plans. If you haven’t already, I’d encourage you to check it out!
While I can completely understand how those limits may not be ideal, I’d be more than happy to pass along that feedback to our developers. We’re always looking for ways to improve the platform and appreciate the feedback.
Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.
Thank you for your feedback!
I got your answer that the file size limit applies to the both Shopify plans as well as Shopify Plus plans.
