I work in the marketing team for a company. I am the one who set up our Shopify store so by default it makes me the owner.
I am trying to set up our Shopify payments but I have to verify our business type. The correct choice is “company”. But now Shopify asks for the details for the owners and business executives.
We are part of a holdings group listed in the Australian Stock Exchange. This Store I am setting up is for one of the brands we distribute. There is no way in hell I am going to get the date of birth and address for executives and shareholders if you want to take it that far.
I am also trying to set up a store for internal purposes to order work uniforms. How on earth am I supposed to verify the business then?
What happened to simply providing a business registration to verify a business.
In an instance like this and if you’re a publicly traded company, you need to pick one human representative - this should be someone who is considered to “exercise significant control” over the company such as those responsible for managing and directing the business and may include executive officers or senior managers. Often it’s the financial controller in public companies - you don’t need all the names of the owners/shareholders in this case, but you do need the one representative.
Once the company and store is setup with the correct legalities, you or whoever it may be, can be assigned as a staff member with full permissons who can then run the store as necessary.
