How can students test ecommerce features without a Shopify subscription?

Hello Shopify Community,

I have been training students at Copenhagen Business in Ecommerce for the past two semesters. The 60 students per semester get a full fletched hands on introduction to ecommerce business, and since I started as an instructor - I switched the training material from Woocommerce to Shopify.

My problem is, that the students cannot test out sending traffic to specific products, categories and pages, because the shops are behind login while not signed up for a subscription. They cannot be forced by the school to pay for the basic subscription.

Could I somehow remove the passcode login for the individual training-shops, without them having to pay the subscription fee?

I run an agency that specialises in Shopify development and digital marketing, and my colleagues at the agency cannot find a solution, so I really hope that someone here could point me in the right direction. Out of last years 60 students, 3 are now operating a live shop as a side hustle to their studies - so the value for Shopify is definitely there, however I can’t seem to get an answer when trying to contact our agency support channels.

Hi @SimonPaag

Thank you for sharing those details! I definitely understand how valuable it would be to have access to fully subscribed stores for your students.

If you have not done so yet, please contact our team at open-learning@shopify.com to make this request. I cannot guarantee if we can offer this, but that would be the team that would help if possible.

Thank you very much for your answer. I had a reply from your learning-team, and they are helping me and the school sort things out for the students training.

Oh that’s amazing! So happy to hear that Simon.

This is a real pain point for teaching Shopify. Contacting the Open Learning team seems to be the only viable option since there’s no self-serve way to remove the password. Glad they stepped in to help.
