How can we prevent abuse of discounted gift cards on our site?

Hi Everyone,

We are considering the idea of offering Gift cards on our page, and we liked the idea of a discounted card system i.e a £100 gift card has a 10% discount (a gift card costs £90 but has a value of £100). I see this is possible with the use of specific product discounts as advertised by Shopify themselves.

We thought this was a great idea until we realised that this is easily abused.

What would stop a customer from purchasing multiple discounted gift cards and using them to pay for their own orders?

Am I missing something or perhaps misunderstanding the system? Do any of you have previous experience or issues offering discounted gift cards?

Any input is gratefully received.

Hi, thanks for the reply, that’s an interesting thought, how do I restrict the number of gift cards a customer can purchase?
