How can we simplify the product exchange process for customers?

At the moment when a customer requests to exchange a clothing product for a different size you have to do the following things:

  • Mark the product as returning
  • Mark the product as returned
  • Refund the product
    • Change the refund price to 0
  • Add a new product
    • Add a discount of 100%
  • Fulfill the order

Previously you could unfulfill the order and change the product, which took considerable less time.

Could this functionality return or an easy “Exchange/Switch” button be placed somewhere? So you only have to press that to change the order and be quickly on your way again.

I am having the exact same problem. Stupid stupid system. I am considering leaving Shopify because they refuse to offer such a basic feature such as online exchanges. Did you manage to resolve this issue? We use another app for our inventory management and unfortunately refunding the product at $0 won’t signal a credit note to adjust inventory correctly.

Unfortunately not. We have quite some workarounds and API’s working to perform basic tasks. It might indeed be worth it to consider another shopping platform. Shopify is an easy and fast working platform but doesn’t always work as you want when you want do more with it than just having a regular webshop.
