How can we sort collections by SKU on an e-commerce store?

Hi, Does anyone know how to sort Collections by SKU? I have a lot of products that aren’t can’t be sorted alphabetically as they are based on set number. Featured doesn’t work either as we need the better products at the top, just need to give the customer the option to sort by SKU

Hi kawaiicollector,

That should be possible! Could you tell me a bit more about which theme you use?

If you’d be happy for me to request access to your store, I could have a quick look at your theme and see if we can make it work how you would like. I would just need your shop URL so I can request access.

There is a way to sort by SKU using the manual sort feature.’

We have over 600 SKUs so actually sorting manually isnt really an option but I figured out a trick that worked for me.

  1. Set the sort option to sort by Product title A-Z

  2. Export your complete product list (make a back up copy since you are going to make changes to this)

  3. Using Excel - add SKU to the beginning of your Product titles

  4. Import your product list back with the new Product title having SKU in front

  5. Now when you look at your Collection - it will be sorted by SKU since you added that to the front of your title name.

  6. Change Sort order to Manual - it will now start your manual sort in SKU order.

  7. Now simply go back and import the original export you did in step 2. This will take the SKU back out of the Product title. The manual sort order will not change when you do this so it will still be in order by SKU.

Now the Collection will be sorted by SKU using the manual sort order that you didn’t have to manually move around to sort.

Hi, I am new to Shopify after using Wix for a few years which by the way does let you sort by SKU. The way around this on Shopify that I have found does let you sort by SKU but you have to use the ‘Product Type field’, luckily for me we don’t need that field as all our products are the digital and the same format. Hope this work around helps anyone having the same issue.
