How do I add a new domain with correct language and domain suffix?

Topic summary

Adding a new Shopify Market for Brazil shows the language and domain set to English by default. The primary store is English (Australia), but the Brazil market displays an English language setting and a URL suffix starting with “en-” (e.g., en-br), which the user finds incorrect.

Goal: Configure the Brazil market to use Portuguese and a domain suffix that reflects Brazil/Portuguese (e.g., “br” or “br-pt”), not “en-br.”

Context: Screenshots are central, showing Shopify’s Market settings assigning English to Brazil and auto-generating the “en-” subfolder in the domain.

Key terms:

  • Shopify Market: regional configuration for language, currency, and domain/URL structure.
  • Domain suffix/subfolder: the path prefix added to the URL to indicate language/locale (e.g., /en-br).

Status: No solution or actions yet; the thread remains open.

Unanswered question: How to change the Brazil market’s language to Portuguese and customize the URL suffix to match the locale (override the default “en-” to “br” or “pt-br”).

Hello Shopyfiers,

I’m trying to add a new Market to my store. My primary store is in English (Australia), and when I added a second market in Brazil it showed the language and domains as English. like in the image.

the problem with that is first in Brazil the language is Portuguese and the domain suffix starts with en- like in the image below.

What I’m looking for is to create a suffix to my website with Br pr maybe Br-pt but not en-br (which doesn’t make any sense)
