How do I build the store in trial phase before removing the password?

I’m in the trial phase, and I’ve upgraded to the Starter Plan, but I can’t seem to do anything to make the store look good before I remove the password. The custom theme I chose (Studio) is being added, but is not actually accessible. How do I build the store before removing the password? Please help! Thank you!

Hi @kikajess ,

Thanks for your post. To access your theme to start editing, you need to navigate to you Sales Channels section on the left of your admin then click Online Store > Themes > and the green Customize button to the right which takes you to your theme editor.

Studio is a great theme. You can follow our Studio help document to get the most out of Studios features and be well on your way to producing a beautiful website.

I’d love to learn more about your business! What are some of the features you plan to use with Studio? If you’d like to show me an example of a website with features you want to emulate, I’d be happy to guide you.

Also, definitely bookmark our new store checklists to keep you on the right track and feeling confident about the progress of your building phase.

Cheers for now!

Ah ha! There’s no green Customize button on my Themes section. I suspect
it’s because I’m still in the free trial/upgraded to the Starter plan.

But I would like that confirmed. Is the free trial/Starter Plan the reason
I can’t customize anything?

And how do I get it setup to where I can customize the look of the store
before I remove the password?

I’m including a picture of the store’s whole themes area in hopes might help get this figured out.

The field that says “Adding Studio” (which is there because I just selected the Studio theme) stays there until I leave the site. When I come back to the themes area after leaving or closing the site, that is gone and Studio has not been added.

Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the reply! A password has already been set for the site; only people with the password can see the site. I do want to build the site before removing the password. I can’t figure out how to customize the theme, and I suspect it is an issue with my account type being in the free trial phase upgraded to the Starter Plan.

Thanks for following up!

You should definitely be able to customize your theme and build a store on a trial plan. The only thing that wouldn’t be accessible is the checkout (until a plan is selected). Any chance you can send me a screenshot of your Online Store/Theme screen?

And just to be sure, please follow this link and make sure the theme was successfully added to your store. Sometimes a step in this process can be skipped or missed.

It’s also possible that it’s been added to your store but isn’t the current published theme. In this case, you’ll need to scroll down the page and click “Actions > Publish” to make it the main theme. You can however still customize Studio without publishing it and opt to click Publish once it’s done.

Looks like this:

Let me know how that goes! Have you thought about which plan you might select when you’re ready?

How can I send you a screenshot? I did add a zipped screenshot of it to my original post.

So, this is kind of strange–the store preferences say “Your online store is password protected” and I have the option to Remove Password. But when I go to the store URL, the password box doesn’t pop up and the site is on display.

I can’t seem to find the zipped screenshot but if you upload them to a third-party image host like Imgur, you can add the links here.

Cool! Try this https://imgur.com/9G4qfd0

The field that says “Adding Studio” (which is there because I just selected the Studio theme) stays there until I leave the site. When I come back to the themes area after leaving or closing the site, that is gone and Studio has not been added.

No worries about that! Your browser recognizes that the account owner is logged in so you are simply bypassing the password page. If you try from an incognito window, that should work as expected.

LOL yep! It did ask me for a pw in a different browser. Thanks for the tip!

Thanks! That was super helpful. This does in fact look like the theme is getting stuck during the uploading process and I suspect it could be a browser related issue.

What browser are you working with? Typically, Chrome is optimal. Though sometimes Chrome itself needs it’s cache cleared or may be due for an update.

So next steps would be to make sure your browser is up-to-date, clear your cache and try again. Otherwise, try adding the theme to your store using a different browser entirely.

Let me know if that does the trick!

Good suggestion! But I doubt it’s a browser issue. It got hung up on adding the theme earlier today when I was at work on my desktop computer. The same issue happened on my laptop at home. I use chrome at both places. I just now tried it in Microsoft Edge, a browser I rarely use for anything, and it also got stuck on “Adding Studio.” Refreshing the themes page in Edge caused “Adding Studio” to disappear, but Studio was not added.

Thanks for trying and helping to rule that out.

I’m curious if the issue persists when you attempt to add a different theme? I just ran a test on my end with a brand new trial account and was able to successfully add Studio so we know the theme itself isn’t glitching out.

If the issue persists with a different free theme, there may be a bug with your trial account. In this case, you can try starting a new one or get in touch with our Help Center to escalate a ticket.

If you haven’t put much work into the trial store yet, I suggest just starting up a fresh one and hopefully that does the trick.

I’d love to know how it goes! Keep me in the loop.

These are great troubleshooting steps. I tried to add the Craft theme, and it did not add–just stuck there on “Adding Craft” then disappearing. I’m going to abandon this store and try starting a new one. Thank you for the suggestion and thank you for all your help!

Happy to help! I’m glad we managed to figure that out. How did it go with the creation of a new account?

I’d love to learn more about your business and what some of your goals are for the coming months! When are you hoping to launch your store by?
