how do I change variant to image I select?

Hi I hope someone is able to answer my question, @Shopify_77

I am currently using the theme ‘Refresh’. On the product page I have multiple colours, I want the colour I choose to be the same as the image show. For example colour ‘black’ then an image showing the colour black.

I’ve tried using codes on google and YouTube I found, I even tried the recommended one on Shopify community. When I paste in the codes found nothing happens, I go to Assets and select theme-editor.js and paste the given code but no luck.

Can someone tell me if I am selecting the wrong file or a solution to my issue.

Thanks for your response, unfortunately I do not have theme.js or theme.js.liquid… IS there another solution please?
