How do I correctly set up Google tags on my site?

Can anyone tell me how I can get the google tags setup on my site? I’ve been running Google ads but the tags aren’t setup correctly and I can’t seem to figure out how to do this so my stats don’t show and I’m just wasting money not being able to figure this out…

All you need to do is setup the Google and Youtube sales channel in Shopify

Follow the steps to connect with your.

  1. Google Merchant center account

  2. Feed Settings

  3. Conversion Tracking

Once done, you will find new conversion events created in your Google Ads account by the prefix of “Google Shopping App…”. You can check this under Tools and Settings>Measurement>Conversions, in your Adwords account. Now you can use these conversion actions to optimize your google ads.

I have the app setup and it shows conversion tracking is enabled and on google analytics it shows products added to cart and purchases etc. However, on my google ads account it shows zero conversions but I know my conversions are coming from google because Shopify is showing sales attributed to search..

Where is the google ads section? I have the google analytics section setup but do not see a google ads section. I am on Basic Plan is this the problem?

Can you confirm if you can see some conversion events added to your Google Ads account. To check this go to : Tools and Settings>Measurement>Conversions in your Adwords account.

I do not, that is the issue I have. All of the tags are inactive, yet when I do google tag manager it shows tags connected so I am super lost on what to do.

It does seem that the GAds events are not setup in your store. Ideally when you connect your Google Ads account in the Google and Youtube sales channel, the conversion events automatically get created. I have seen a few cases where somehow they dont and there seems to be no specific reason for this issue as well. From my experience, I can tell you what you can do:
1.Disconnect and Reconnect your ads account in your Google and Youtube sales channel. I have seen cases where this seems to solve the issue. You can check if this works by going into the Measurement section of Google Ads, where if you see conversion events with “Google Shoppig App..” prefix.
2.In case the above method does not work, I would suggest you to just import events from your GA4 integration(assuming you have alreay integrated GA4).
You can import GA4 events by following the below steps:
Step 1>In your GA4 go to Admin>Propery>Events, and using the toggle button, you can choose the events you want to track in your Google Ads. “Puchase” event is by default setup as conversion. You can skip this step as well in case you only want to optimise your Google Ads for “Purchases”.
Step 2>Go to Tools and Measurement>Conversions in your Google Ads account
Step 3>Click on “New Conversion” and then click on “Import”
Step 4>Select the GA4 property and choose the “purchase” event.

This method will give you the required event to measure your ad performance. Make sure to set it up as Primary converison event. You can read more about managing conversion events in your campaings and reporting here.

Sorry! I never saw this for some reason. I just went through all the steps just now and got it imported so fingers crossed it works! Thank you :slightly_smiling_face:
