How do I create a second store environment?

I want to update my store at least once a month with the goal of at least every other week once I know what I’m doing. Example: Nov is sweaters. Dec is Taupe.

Let’s say current store is featuring sweaters, so the Hero at top of page is an image with sweaters and a button to link to the clothing collection called sweaters. All the sweaters I have for sale are in that collection called sweaters. They also can be accessed through a menu drop down under Tops/Sweaters and Tops/View All Tops. Also five of them are new, so they are in New Arrivals collection and menu drop down.

I want to roll out the new collection called Taupe. I purchased a line of taupe clothes that I want to roll out in a new collection. I enter each of these new products. I add them to a collection called Taupe. Some may be sweaters, some pants, and some blouses. Some may be old inventory, but some will be new fresh inventory never added to my store before.

I’m trying to work a month ahead–so I get Taupe inventory in Nov while Sweaters is live. I work on adding Taupe product. I want to make them active and set up all the sales channels as I work. BUT I DON’T WANT THEM LIVE until I publish the Taupe collection. I want to make them active so that when I do publish the Taupe collection, they go live then.

Here’s where I get lost. I see that I can duplicate my live store/theme, and I can add a collection called Taupe to the Hero image. I’ve got that part down. But the Main Menu, including tops, bottoms, and New Arrivals are duplicated too. If I make the products active and add to pants or sweaters and new arrivals, then they launch live on the site under those collections. They are no longer being launched with a special collection called Taupe.

I think I need to create duplicate collections, one currently live and one draft for each menu item and for new arrivals. But, what do I do when I’m ready to publish? Is the URL no longer correct for indexing?

So to create my new collection site, I need the Taupe Collection AND Taupe menus?

How do keep products from showing live while doing this without having to spend an entire morning going through all products the day of launch to make them active from draft?

Hi @shopvarenne ,
This is Theodore from PageFly - Shopify Page Builder App.

If you want to update your Shopify store with new collections without any interruptions, for as going from “Sweaters” to “Taupe,” you need first put your new Taupe inventory to a special collection and hide it from view in any active categories. To set up the Taupe collection, use a duplicate draft of your current store/theme. In the draft theme, update the Hero picture and main menu. By using this method, you can ensure that the Taupe products are only displayed in the Taupe collection and not in other live collections like “Tops/Sweaters” or “New Arrivals.” You can also arrange everything ahead of time. Just publish the duplicate theme when you’re ready to launch, and your store will be updated with the new collection instantly. This technique does away with the requirement for last-minute product activations and preserves your URLs for indexing.

I’ll be so happy if my suggestion can help to solve your problem. If you have any further questions, please feel free to tell me.

I currently do this with the hero feature collection, but it does not
address handling the actual products.

I want the newly purchased Taupe products to show in Tops, Pants, and New
Arrivals — when the new page goes live only. Example: I buy the Mesa
Taupe Pant on Nov 10 to launch in the Taupe collection. I want to create
the product called Mesa Taupe Pant and add all the product details; add the
collections Taupe, New Arrivals, Pants; set the sales channels to Online,
POS, FB/IG, Google; and make it active. But I don’t want it to show up live
in New Arrivals and Pants on the live page until I publish Taupe on Dec 1.

To launch your Taupe collection on Shopify while ensuring products like “Mesa Taupe Pant” only appear in “Tops,” “Pants,” and “New Arrivals” on the launch day, start by creating and setting up these products in advance, marking them as ‘active’ but not adding them to the mentioned collections yet. Use Shopify’s feature to set a future publishing date for each product, scheduling them to be added to “New Arrivals” and “Pants” on your launch date (e.g., Dec 1). Prepare the “Taupe” collection and menus in your store’s backend, and consider using a staging environment for testing. On the launch day, the products will automatically appear in the designated collections, aligning with the live publication of the “Taupe” collection. This approach ensures a coordinated and seamless rollout of your new collection.

This is describing what I am trying to accomplish, so thank you.

I don’t see a way to set a future publish date for a product or a collection. Is that an add-on app?

There are a few options available to you: using third-party apps like “Bulk Product Edit & CSV import” or “Launchpad” (especially for Shopify Plus merchants) or manually updating collections on launch day; for technical experts, building custom scripts with Shopify’s API; or preparing products as drafts and publishing them as needed. The level of automation and technical complexity of each approach varies, so the one you choose will rely on your comfort level with technology as well as the particular needs of your product releases. When thinking about using third-party solutions, always make sure they work with your Shopify theme and other applications.

Your previous reply helped me know what to search for on google. Found this:

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Products.
  2. Click a product name.
  3. In the Product status section, do the following: Verify that the
status is set to Active. In the Publishing section, click the calendar
icon next to Online Store. …
  4. Click Schedule publishing.
  5. Click Save.

Thank you!
