I would like to deactivate my store, get out of this mess. How do I access admin?
Topic summary
Main issue: The user wanted to deactivate their online store and was unable to access the admin (store’s management dashboard).
Guidance provided:
- If locked out, reset the store password using Shopify’s password reset link. This restores admin access so you can manage settings.
- If logged in, follow Shopify’s “pause/deactivate store” instructions to close the store from the admin.
- If access cannot be regained, contact Shopify Support by email to request deactivation; identity verification is required before they can close the store.
Outcome: The original poster confirmed they successfully deactivated their store after following the guidance.
Status: Resolved. No further action items or unanswered questions noted.
Notes:
- “Admin” refers to the Shopify admin dashboard where store settings and account actions (like deactivation) are managed.
- “Deactivate” in this context means closing the store per Shopify’s official steps.
Hey Hercathome,
If you don’t have access to your store currently, then you can try following the steps listed here (https://help.shopify.com/en/support/reset-password) to reset your store password.
If you can get logged in to your store, then you can deactivate your store by following the steps listed here (https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/your-account/pause-deactivate-store#deactivate-your-store).
If you can’t get access to your store, then you’ll need to reach out to Shopify support team directly (support@shopify.com) and request that they deactivate your store. Once they verify your identity, they’ll be able to close the store for you.
Hope the above helps! ![]()
