how do i disconnect domain from inactive store and connect it to a new shopify store??

kindly help me out. i’m worried about my domain that is connected to an inactive store. now when i try to connect a new store it says domain connected to another website. what can i do now?

Here’s the answer from Emily - a Shopify expert. This will help you:

To remove a domain from an inactive store will require you to log into your inactive account to initiate the domain transfer. When you transfer your domain, your DNS records, email forwarding address, and subdomains will transfer along with the domain. To transfer your domain, you need to follow these steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin in your inactive store, go to Settings > Domains.
  2. In the Shopify-managed domain section, click the domain you want to transfer.
  3. Click Transfer domain > Transfer to another Shopify Store.
  4. Confirm your information is up to date, and then click Send transfer link.
  5. When you receive the transfer email message, you need to click the transfer link in the email text and log in to the Shopify store when you want to transfer the domain.

After the transfer is accepted, it can take up to 24 hours for the domain transfer to complete. Once the transfer is complete, you can log back into that inactive store and deactivate it. To do this, you need to go to Settings > Plan and click deactivate store in your admin.

If you’re referring to a third-party domain you have previously attached to an existing Shopify store, we can help you to remove that domain so it’s free to use on your new store.

Just get in touch via our Help Centre here where we’ll be able to verify your ownership of that domain and help out with removing it.

If you can provide screenshots of your domain provider account, that will help us to confirm your ownership and proceed.

I don’t want my website to be connected to shopify anymore - that’s the problem. I need it disconnected completely and it won’t let me do it without opening a new shopify store
