How do I have no shipping on furniture items in Dawn Theme?

Majority of our items we offer shipping, however, our large furniture pieces, we don’t want to ship. How can we have these be pick up only with shipping not me an option? We use the free Dawn theme currently.

This is definitely doable! To setup your large furniture items to be pickup only will require you to have a separate shipping profile and to ensure that local pickup is also enabled.

The first step is to ensure you have pickup enabled on your store. This will be location based, so if you have large item furniture in multiple locations you will need to ensure you have pickup enabled for all of them.

Once pickup is setup, you will want to create a separate shipping profile for the large items in your store, this will provide a unique set of rates (or lack thereof) for the items inside the profile. The steps for that are:

In the store admin head over to Settings > Shipping, next to the heading “Custom Shipping Rates” click the link to “Create new profile”.

Fill in a name for the shipping profile (for your own use, customers don’t see this) and add all your large furniture items to the profile.

Next, you will add a shipping zone, but you will not add any shipping rates. The zone should be for the state/province your business is located in.

This will show an error that the items in the profile can’t be checked out, this is okay! As long as the zone is setup for the same location as your store eligible for pickup, the pickup option will be available at checkout. Try with just one product, or a test product if you want to test the setup before moving all products over. Let me know here if you need any additional help with this.

Is there a way to make it so they can choose local delivery or pick up? It
defaulted to making them pay for local delivery and didn’t give them an
option to check-out.

If they only had the option for local delivery, and not pickup at the checkout, you will want to ensure your options for pickup are available. If you need help troubleshooting this don’t hesitate to reach out to our retail support team. You can find their contact information in your store admin under the Point Of Sale sales channel or in the Support tab in your Shopify POS app.

I don’t use the POS feature. Under the Local Pickup tab it says allows
pickup & is in green. Is there something else I’m missing?
