Legitimacy of a supposed “shopifymod” requesting store access was questioned after they asked for the store URL and “collaborator’s access” via a Gmail address to fix a pixel issue. Collaborator access allows someone to enter a store’s backend to review settings, which raises security concerns if the requester is not verified.
A Shopify staff member confirmed the requester is not Shopify staff and advised not to grant access. The email was flagged for review, and partners are not allowed to imply they are Shopify staff.
Recommended actions: Repost the issue with detailed information for community help. If deeper technical support is needed, hire vetted professionals through the Shopify Experts Marketplace.
Latest update: Applications to join the Experts Marketplace are currently closed. An interest form will be available when it reopens; no timeline was provided, and Shopify will announce when applications open.
Status: The security concern was addressed with clear guidance, but the pixel problem itself remains unresolved in the thread.
How do i know that it is a real shopifymod who wants to have acces to my store to help me out? i have a problem with my pixel and one of the “shopifymods” answer to my problem and that`s what they wrote me:
I am willing to work with you in solving this. If you are open to my assistance;
Kindly share with me your store’s URL.
Kindly grant me a collaborator’s access - this will allow me get to your store’s backend and examine the setup.
No, I wouldn’t trust that email address. It would be innocent to think that behind billgateselonmusk@gmail.com are the real guys.
If it was a Shopify staff, it would have** @Shopify_77 .com**address. You should consider hiring a reliable web developer - not someone that brings fake claims.
Thank you for flagging this and reaching out for another opinion. That is absolutely not a Shopify staff member and I would not grant them access to your merchant account. I have flagged that email with our team to review as we do not allow partners to imply they are Shopify staff members.
If you need assistance with your store don’t hesitate to post your question again in a new thread, with as much details as possible, and if our community experts are available or know how to help they will.
If you need additional technical support that our community can’t provide I recommend hiring an expert from our Expert Marketplace for assistance: Hire Shopify Experts, developers, designers and freelancers. These are vetted and approved experts that we recommend for support.
I know that this is not related to this posting, but can you provide more details on the Shopify Experts Marketplace? Can I signup, or get on a waiting list?
Hi Gabriel! I definitely understand the interest in being a part of it. At this time we are not accepting applications as we continue to build Experts Marketplace and its offerings. When it reopens, there will be an application of interest form available to fill out. I don’t have a timeline at this stage, but I can assure you that we will announce open applications when that is available again.
