Hey @gangsmokeeee ,
Great question!
If you’ve deactivated your Shopify store and you’re trying to create a new store with the same name, you’ll need to adjust it slightly. At this time it’s not possible to change or remove the .myshopify.com domain name associated with your store. It is automatically created based on the store name you gave when signing up for the service originally. However, you may also want to consider whether it’s necessary to use the same store name for your new website. Choosing a new name can give you a fresh start and a chance to rebrand your business.
In saying that, there are a couple of options for you. Do you currently have a custom domain associated with your store? The domain that’s displayed when customers visit your online store is your primary domain. By default, when you sign up for Shopify, your primary domain uses your .myshopify.com URL. Having a custom domain name is a step we would highly recommend as it adds a level of trust and sends a strong signal that you’re an established business to your customers, it’s a core part of your brand’s identity essentially. If you want to change the domain that customers use to visit your store, then you can buy a custom domain name from Shopify or from any third-party domain registrar. After you add a custom domain to Shopify, then you can set your custom domain as the primary domain.
When you buy a domain through Shopify, your domain is automatically configured to be the website address that’s displayed to customers. Check out this guide which takes you through the steps on purchasing a custom domain through Shopify.
yea i did buy a domain before previously, say it was mindset7.me (i gotta renew it) but say i have that then the shopify store name will change to mindset 7? but you do make a good point on being able to rebrand myself, i want to but idk i already been building this name for a little bit now and i wouldnt want to like restart what people alrdy know yk?
You can certainly use the same custom domain that you have previously bought (e.g mindset7.me). It’s just the myshopifyURL (e.g mindset7.myshopify.com) that will need to be slightly different when you sign up, even if you just add an extra number or letter. This won’t affect your external brand, as long as you connect your custom domain, this will be what your customers see. The myshopifyURL can be viewed as something you use just to login to your Shopify account and is used to identify you when contacting our support team. Hope this helps!
