How do I point my domain's nameservers to Yahoo?

I have set up an email service via Yahoo. They sent me the following message:

Now that you’ve completed your order, here are instructions to redelegate your domain with your domain provider:

  1. Contact the company that registered your domain (your registrar). You can usually do this on the registrar’s web site. If you don’t remember which registrar you used, you can look it up (just enter your domain name in the field provided).

  2. Ask your registrar to change your name servers to your new Aabaco Small Business settings. You don’t need to understand name servers to make the switch. Just provide your registrar with this information (be sure to replace example.com with your own domain name):

Dear registrar,
I would like to request a name server change for my domain example.com. Please change my name servers to:
Primary name server: yns1.yahoo.com
Secondary name server: yns2.yahoo.com

How do I proceed with this? Thank you.

Hi, @kozorae ,

Hank here from Shopify.

In order to best assist you, I’d like to just confirm a couple of things with you relating to this.

The first, is your domain hosted by Shopify, or is it a third-party domain? Depending on who the host is, gives different steps to change the DNS settings.

Normally, it is the MX records that are changed once you use the likes of a third-party email hosting service rather than the nameservers. You can edit the MX records within the admin of a Shopify managed domain, (Online Store > Domains > Manage > DNS settings).

In that section also, you can edit the nameservers. I would advise proceeding with caution here as this can affect how your domain is pointed. You would change the nameservers if your domain is hosted elsewhere, but again, proceed with caution. Once your nameservers are pointed outside of Shopify, it would be a case that your new host would be the one to assist you with any issues relating to your domain going forward.

An important thing to note relating to custom nameservers is that they are still expected to have the DNS information pointing to Shopify’s A Record / CNAME Record. If the custom nameservers are pointing somewhere else other than our system, it will try to validate and revert the nameservers back to the default if validation fails. Again resulting in another possible issue with your domain.

Let me know how you get on, or if you have any additional questions.

All the best,

Hank
