How do you Avoiding Shipping Overcharges by Shipping Company that are taken directly out of your Shopify Account?

How do you avoid shipping miscalculation on the Shipping company’s end that ends up charging your store more for shipping? For example, I shipped a painting in a FedEx Art Box and was charged an extra $300 because they said the size and weight was different despite evidence provided with photos from my buyer that it was not? They refused my claim and provided no further evidence. I would like to avoid this in the future. Thank you

@Japatel3 Sorry to hear you had this experience. It’s a sticky topic for sure because carriers have the final say on what gets charged.

They use automated equipment in their facilities to weight and measure each package. This means if your box is bulging, for example, they will measure and charge based on the dimensions including the bulge.

The best way to avoid these charges is to make sure you always use the maximum dimensions and weight.

Unfortunately there’s no silver bullet here and it sounds like you did the right things. Hopefully this was just a bad one-time experience.

I have started to have the fedex location weigh my box because they stated it was 90 lbs, which is how much I weigh and I carried the box in myself. I hope this was a one time bad experience too but it is a lot of money for my little small business. Thank you
