How do you keep your website and apps updated without coding knowledge?

Hi. We had a parent company create our Shopify website two/three years ago. It was a decent set up, no frills but a clean design and some apps that got the job done. Since then I’ve taken over the site and have been working with the layouts and contents. My assumption was that everything was auto updating since I didn’t see any flags or notifications that anything needed updating. I’ve just noticed fairly recently things are starting to not function as intended, and now that I’m aware of what’s been happening there are a LOT of things that need to get fixed. The vast majority of it is coding.

I can work out the formatting, layout and things of that nature, but when it comes to code, I’m not only unfamiliar with it but I’m really hesitant to even try to work with it, not knowing how to build a line command or where it’s supposed to be plugged in.

TLDR: My question isn’t “how do I fix this immediate problem?”. I’m asking the community how you keep your website up to date. Coding is essentially a language all its own. How do you deal with situations where coding is involved? I’m thinking the majority of Shopify small business owners are on the same page as me, savvy enough to work a webpage layout but not knowledgeable in coding. I feel like I’ve got a big blind spot in this one area, that there should be a relatively simple answer that I’m not seeing.

Thanks for anyone who’s willing to take the time and give some insight.

EDIT: I work with an app called Out of the Sandbox, and have a purchased theme. This is where a lot of the issues are stemming from.

Hi @TnTSafes

So many things in Shopify are changes in the last two-three years. Shopify comes with the new version of the Online Store 2.0. Due to Online Store 2.0, you may have to update the app or ask for the app’s support team. You can also discuss the issue with Out of the Sandbox customer support. They are more helpful to you.
