How do you make all inventory to 0 when one variant is sold out?

Does anyone know how to make all the variants sold out when just one variant is sold out?

My website sells art pieces and it has variants for unframed and framed pieces. Once an art piece sells out then, is it possible to remove all variants automatically?

Hi @curiousjoe ,

Apologies for the delay in getting back to you!

That’s an interesting question and I want to make sure I’ve understood it correctly: are you saying that you want to be able to sell a single artwork as either framed or not framed, and when it is sold either way inventory automatically changes to 0?

If that is correct, I have to point out that it is not natively possible to do, as inventory is tracked at a product level, and not a variant level. But it’s a great idea and one that I will be sure to pass on as feedback internally!

In the meantime, what you could do is duplicate each product so that you have one unframed artwork and one framed artwork, and then simply connect their inventory using an app like Connected Inventory which would mean that when one sells it reflects in the other as well.
Incidentally, as you’ve mentioned that you’re selling artwork, you may find our Ultimate Guide to Selling Art on Shopify handy to look over.

How is setting up your store working out for you? Do you have more questions you’d like to run by me? I’m happy to help!

Hello Andrew,

Thank you for your response.

Yes, that was what I meant. Connected Inventory would not be a solution because our store would just be full of duplicate products. That is so unfortunate.
