How does marketing funnel work with first sales in 90 days?

I’m challenging to have the first sale within 90 days once launch. For whoever’s done this in the past, some strategic planning and execution can be crucial. Thinking marketing funnels, how does this work with the goal of conversion and earning first sale within the given timeframe?

I’m thinking understanding customers would help with directing traffic to the stie to begin with. Once they’ve landed on the store, we can go about analyzing their behaviours or shopping flow from there.

What research tools would be a good fit along the lines of this thinking?

Hi @Arcs

There are some tools that you can look into. Such as: Google Keyword Planner to check the your keyword, volume etc. Microsoft Clarity can also be a good choice, it provides heatmaps and session recordings so you can watch videos of where your visitors are getting stuck and why they aren’t buying.

Hope this helps!

You are totally on the right track getting that first sale within 90 days really depends on having a solid funnel and understanding who your customers are.

I have helped a few new Shopify store owners hit their first sales, and what usually makes the difference is two things:

Knowing your audience tools like Google Trends, Facebook Audience Insights, or Uber suggest can help you figure out what people in your niche actually care about and search for.

Tracking store behavior once visitors land on your store, use Hotjar, Microsoft Clarity, or Shopify Analytics to see what they click, how far they scroll, and where they drop off. That info helps you tweak your product pages and increase conversions.

I actually help new Shopify stores set up and optimize their funnels from getting the right traffic to converting it into real sales through product page design, offers, and email follow ups.

If you do like I can share a simple 90 day plan that shows what steps to take weekly to start driving traffic and getting those first few sales. Just let me know I will be happy to help!

Hey @Arcs! Getting your first sale in 90 days is all about focus. Start with one audience and one traffic source (ex: TikTok, Pinterest, Meta ads). Drive traffic → watch how people behave on your site → improve what stops them from buying.

Think of it as a simple funnel:
Traffic → Product page → Add to cart → Purchase

To understand where people drop off, use analytics/behavior tools. For example, our app’s Customer Journey feature shows which pages shoppers visit the most and where they usually stop. This helps you focus on the exact step that needs improvement — maybe your homepage is getting views but nobody opens product pages, or they add to cart but abandon checkout.

In short:

  • Bring the right traffic
  • Watch their behavior
  • Fix the bottleneck

Small tweaks at the right step move you much faster toward that first sale. Hope this helps!

yes, the simple roadmap can be thought of like this:

bring traffic to your store make your offer compelling so that shoppers explore your store guide them to take some action close the sale.

and yeah, when shoppers visit your store, you should record their actions on your site via pixels. this will provide you with some valuable insights (about what actions they take on your store, which ads are driving results, etc.) that you can further use to optimize your marketing funnel.

Hey there! Great question, and congrats on getting your store launched!

You’re right—understanding your customers and their journey is key for those crucial first 90 days. A marketing funnel just means guiding visitors step-by-step: from discovering your shop, to browsing, all the way to hitting that first “Buy” button.

For research and tracking, here’s what can help:

  • Shopify’s built-in reports let you see where your traffic is coming from, which pages people visit, and basic conversion data. Super valuable for spotting drop-off points!
  • If you want more detailed funnel insights—like understanding exactly where shoppers leave or which products get skipped—Mipler reports can break down customer journeys, conversion rates, and shopping behavior in a more granular way.

You might also want to check out Shopify’s analytics dashboards and tools like Google Analytics for deeper research. Combining these can give you a full picture for testing and improving your strategies.

Good luck crushing that first-sale goal!

Getting that first sale in 90 days can feel like chasing a moving target but it’s definitely doable with the right setup. Tools like Hotjar, Microsoft Clarity, and Shopify’s own reports can show what’s really happening on your store. I have actually helped a few new shops cross that first sale mark happy to share a few updates if you are open to it.

Hey @Arcs,

This is Sophia here from Tapita Ai SEO and Speed Optimizer. Here’s what I recommended for your 90-day first-sale challenge:

  1. Start with customer research (before traffic)

Understanding who you’re selling to is the biggest shortcut.
Tools I personally like:

  • Google Trends - see what people are searching for
  • AnswerThePublic - real customer questions
  • Meta Ads Library - see what competitors are running
  • TikTok Creative Center - what’s trending in your niche

These help you shape your messaging and offers.

  1. Build a basic funnel

You don’t need anything complicated:
Traffic → Product page → Add to cart → Checkout → Purchase

For the first sale, I focus on:

  • 1–2 strong hero products
  • Clear value proposition
  • Social proof (even light: UGC, early testers)
  • A simple offer (free shipping, small discount)
  1. Analyze early behaviour

Once people start landing, look at:

  • Where they drop off (product page? checkout?)
  • What they click
  • What device they use

Tools I find useful:

  • Shopify Analytics
  • Tapita for overall SEO & Speed optimzetion
  • Google Analytics 4

Hoping to hear positive updates regarding sales.

    ii.) Implement customers reviews
    iii.) Recommend products to customers
iv.) Work on discounts and Loyalty rewards.
v.) Send the Whatsapp/Email/SMS/Web push to the customers.

These are the process/steps to implement for marketing. Feel free to let me know if you need any help.

@Arcs ,

The funnel is not just traffic → checkout. Product page offers, add-ons, and cart upsells can create clearer next steps once someone shows buying intent.

Additionally to driving traffic to your store, you could try placing some strategic upsells & cross sells around some of your collections, or adding cart page or cart drawer upsell.

I run AS Quantity Break & Upsell app and I often see our users get meaningful results from strategies like that.

If some of your products are suitable for bulk/volume discounts, you could try adding those too. This works especially well for consumables, ones that your customers need to top-up often.

This is just one part of the puzzle, of course. Your ability to drive traffic to your store, tell a good story, guide your customer with good copy and layout, optimising performance of your store, shipping times, etc etc, all play a part in your customers trusting you with their money.
