I enabled USPS priority mail as one of the shipping options for my product.
However, how does Shopify know which priority mail product I will be using? If the customer orders one or two items, I would use the small envelope, 3 to 5 the large envelope, 5-15 the medium box.
It seems like it is just basing the shipping fee on the weight. But priority mail is based on the package type.
Shopify calculates USPS Priority Mail rates at checkout based on your store’s default package dimensions and the total weight of items in the cart. While USPS Priority Mail pricing depends on the specific package type (eg: small envelope or medium box), Shopify doesn’t automatically switch packaging based on order size. Instead, it uses the single default package you’ve set. To handle different packaging needs, ensure accurate product weights and manually choose the correct USPS Priority Mail packaging when buying the label. This way, the actual shipping cost matches the package you intend to use for each order.
Thank you! That makes sense. I didn’t realize that I chose the specific package size when creating the label.
