I have used it in the past when I was operating an ecommerce business. It is a good basic solution for wholesale selling. The customer experience is typical for a b2b portal, it provides an easy way to order multiple quantities of an item.
The most difficult thing for us was having to upload price lists rather than simply applying the wholesale price via our inventory system but that was not a huge deal.
If you are on Shopify Plus I recommend getting someone from the merchant success team to run you through it and also testing it out yourself. Overall there are not too many features so it is quite easy to understand.

Shopify Plus wholesale portal is very basic, it only work for you, if you don’t interested to Change layout or design, and just need simple wholesale functions.
Because you can’t change wholesale frontend design, there is no option to upload custom theme.
I will preferred sperate Shopify store for wholesale customers.
Its better than use Shopify Plus wholesale portal.
You can do anything on sperate store.
You can also assign subdomain on this store.
