How is everyone dealing with the 'New EU withdrawal button required by June 19, 2026'

Hi. We are an Australian based store selling worldwide.

How is everyone dealing with the ‘New EU withdrawal button required by June 19, 2026’

We received an email from Shopify (11 June) which said “We’re introducing cancellation rules and a self-serve flow - coming on June 17 - which you can enable…” However, it seems this hasn’t been provided.

Any comments would be most appreciated.

Thanks, John

Hi @JohnStudioLinzie

We’re in the same boat. It looks like Shopify has started rolling it out, but it hasn’t reached every store yet. I’d just keep an eye on your admin over the next few days, it should show up soon

Hi @brisk_code Thanks will do. I asked the Shopify ‘Sidekick’ AI and it’s reply was a multi-step process that seemed quite complicated, and I just wasn’t sure it was even necessary ¯_(ツ)_/¯

This is the entire details of EU:

After study, their is an app with free plan that you can check it, it’s not marketing but need to use free options:

Worth checking with Shopify support, but the feature may be limited to / or implemented first in the shops based in EU.

Historical example – unit price functionality was added for French and German shops; other stores needed to contact Support to turn it on.

Have you tried these steps:

Hello there @JohnStudioLinzie
If you sell to customers in the EU, check your order cancellation flow and modify your store policies to include information about EU withdrawal rights while you wait for Shopify’s feature release. For now, you can offer a clear way for customers to request cancellation (via your contact form, for example, or your customer account page) and then manually process the requests that are eligible. And watch for new settings in your Shopify admin as these compliance capabillities are rolling out, store by store.

One thing to note is that if you are selling digital contents or made to order items, you are exempt from this directive. For everyone else a clear withdrawal button became mandatory for online stores selling to EU consumers (Directive (EU) 2023/2673). Most stores haven’t caught up yet.

If the button isn’t there, the 14-day return window automatically extends to 12 months, allowing customers to return orders nearly a year later. Penalties can reach 4% of turnover.
