Most Shopify merchants have no idea how many product images are sitting with empty alt text. It’s silently hurting your SEO and accessibility - and it gets worse every time you add new products.
Here’s a quick audit:
Right-click any product image on your storefront → click Inspect → look for alt="". If it’s blank or just a filename like IMG_4872.jpg, you have a gap.
Working with multiple Shopify clients, I kept seeing the same problem - hundreds of products with zero alt text, and no practical way to fix it manually at scale. That’s what led me to build AltMaster. It bulk updates alt text across your entire catalog and automatically detects every new product you upload - so the gap never grows back.

Regarding alt text creation - we don’t rely on AI for this. Instead, we use a structured template that pulls in fields such as color, vendor, type, title, and more. You also have the option to customize the template to fit your specific needs.
The reason we’ve opted out of AI-generated alt text is simple: it can be inaccurate in many cases, and we believe a template-based approach gives you more control and reliability.
I completely understand why you chose a template-based system it provides consistency and control.
That said, I’d be happy to show you how AI can be used as an enhancement rather than a replacement. With the right implementation, it can generate more descriptive, context-aware alt text while still respecting your existing template structure and rules.
