How to add a collection to my online store's navigation?

Topic summary

Main issue: Collections don’t appear in the storefront/navigation and a banner says “To add this collection to your online store’s navigation, you need to update your menu.” A screenshot of the banner was shared.

Key guidance from support:

  • In Shopify Admin > Online Store > Navigation, edit Main Menu or Footer Menu and add a link to the collection. The banner shows when a collection is available online but not linked to any menu; clicking “update your menu” should take you to add it.
  • Ensure availability: set the collection to be available to the Online Store, and also set each product in the collection to the Online Store under Sales channels and apps (Manage > select Online Store).

User-reported workarounds/results:

  • Toggling product availability to Online Store resolved it for several users.
  • One user dismissed the banner (X) and could publish, though this didn’t work for others.
  • Another user switched the collection type to Manual (instead of Automated) and it worked for them.

Support escalation: Staff offered account-specific help via email or the Help Center.

Status: Ongoing. Some users resolved it via menu linking and product availability; others still experience issues and frustration, with no single universal fix identified.

God bless you!!! Thank you, you have helped me so much. It took me 2 hours to find the answer. Guys, you don’t have to edit the collections, you have to edit the product. In the column on the right there is “SALES CHANNELS AND APPS” click “Manage” and select “Online Store”. Then the product will appear in a collection on your site. Thank you, twistedbliss, for your help. Good luck and success in everything!!:))
