How to add a new input field on checkout form page

Greetings

I’m wish to add a new field in the last form in checkout so my customers can fill their VAT inside…does anyone knows how can i achieve this?

I am in the basic plan and i cant find a checkout.liquid file does this matter?

Thank you for your question. Please note that the checkout.liquid theme template cannot be accessed by merchants who are not on the Shopify Plus plan, as editing the checkout’s code is a Plus-only feature.

An alternative option would be for you to edit your theme’s language and amend an existing field to one where you ask for the customer’s VAT information. You could also ask the customer to provide this information at an earlier point, such as on the product page or at the cart page.

Can you tell me a bit more about what information you’re asking for, exactly, and why you require it?

I want customer to choose receipt or invoice and those who choose invoice (those who own a company) to fill a filed with a unique VAT-Code.

Right, I see. I would recommend instead collecting this data on the cart page, which is one step before the checkout for customers. You could edit your theme’s code to add this field.

There is guidance on this other Community thread from members who advise how this can be done in your theme’s code. You could also consider hiring a Shopify Expert to help you make this change if you’re not confident editing theme code yourself.

I just wanted to jump in in case you are still looking for a solution.

Sufio’s invoicing app can provide you with both a VAT capturing field and automated invoices that can be instantly created and sent to your customers (the invoices would also display your customer’s VAT number).

Sufio also provides a VAT exemption tool whereby your customer can enter their EU VAT number and Sufio will validate it and mark that customer as tax exempt, removing the taxes from the order.

As you have mentioned that your are on the Shopify Basic plan, the above tools can be placed on either the Cart page, Customer Registration page or Customer Account page.
