I have read that you can’t have two themes live on a Shopify site. My question is this, how do I apply the Dawn theme to a backup while I’m editing and redesigning. With my traditional web design/wordpress and such, I will build the new sites on my server then migrate the site. With Shopify, what do you suggest, when you have a live site with a client, but need a new re-design with a new theme? Is there a way to clone the site and build it on my personal shopify platform? How to I do this?
Hi @edtechedu
What we usually do is Duplicate the live theme, and edit the duplicated theme. You can preview it as unpublished theme and do some edits
I’ve duplicated the live theme, here is the thing. My clients haven’t updated the current theme for three years! There are many issues/bugs and such on the live current site. I’m a WordPress and web designer, and don’t work often with Shopify. I usually build new sites on my own server then migrate it to the client. What I want to do is to be able to see the “DAWN” theme live while I edit since it’s so radically different then the outdated theme that is live. How am I able to do this? Usually I download the master web files and import them into my server and build from there.
Hi @edtechedu ,
You still want to keep the option for client to edit the theme whenever they want right? The only thing I can take off is to edit by using the code editor of Shopify. Unless someone has a better idea
I figured it out, thank you so much!
