I have just changed to Dawn theme and realise that the add a note box only appears in the cart and not at checkout so if people do a fast checkout they don’t see the option to add a note. Is there any way around this?

I understand that you’re looking for a way to add the order notes to the checkout pages. While you can enable the order notes on the cart page, I’m afraid there isn’t a way to add the order notes to the checkout areas. That being said, I can see how having the notes in the checkout can be beneficial for our merchants and their customers, especially when it comes to accelerated checkout, and I’d be happy to pass this suggestion along to our development team. If Shopify moves forward with any changes to the order notes and/or checkout, then we’ll be sure to announce them on our changelog and/or updates page.
If you’re looking to customize the checkout, then it is possible to do this using the Shopify Plus plan. Shopify Plus is our enterprise plan that comes with a customizable checkout. However, the plan starts at $2000 USD per month and is more suitable for businesses selling at higher volumes.
Alternatively, there is a free third-party app, called Checkout Comments, which does allow you to capture comments in the checkout pages. However, while this app is more of a product review type of app, you may be able to use it as a workaround by capturing comments without publishing them on the product pages. It’s important to note that this app doesn’t add the comments to the actual order notes, so you need to check the comments through the app. If you need any assistance with this app, then the app developer is always available to assist you - you can reach out to them directly through the contact information found in the Support section of their app’s page.
