How to add a Pre-Order button on Palo Alto

Hi, would anyone be able to help me add a pre-order button to my product page on Palo Alto. When I try to follow instructions on Shopify, I cannot find the code

addToCart: {{ 'products.product.add_to_cart' | t | json }},

This appears on my theme.liquid but if I amend that, it then doesn’t give me an Add to Cart option. Is there a way I can have both button available to use with Palo Alto? Thanks

Hi, @AntaraLondon !

Julie here from Shopify Support.

While we have some instructions on how to set up pre-orders with custom code, the process may be slightly different since you’re using a third-party theme. For this reason, I recommend using an app.

There are plenty of pre-order apps in the Shopify App Store specifically designed to accept pre-orders. Some popular options I suggest looking into include:

These apps will allow you to swap the “Add to Cart” button for a “Pre-order” button, giving you the ability to accept pre-orders and generate revenue while your products are out of stock. You can also choose which products you’d like to accept pre-orders on, which can be really beneficial if you only intend to have certain products available for pre-order. You can even add a “Coming Soon” badge to your products and can customize the pre-order button so that it matches your online store.

All the apps listed above have great reviews and are quite popular. If you have any questions about the installation, or their functionalities and integrations, you’ll just need to reach out to the app developers directly for assistance. Because these apps have been developed by third-party developers, they’ll be the best equipped to assist.

However, if you still plan on implementing this with custom code, then you may want to reach out to a Shopify Expert for assistance. Since Palo Alto is a third-party theme, this would be best handled by a web developer who is familiar with custom code and third-party themes.

Lastly, as you continue working on adding a pre-order feature to your online store, I suggest checking out our blog post, “How to Use Pre-Orders to Validate, Pre-Sell, and Build Hype for a Product”. This post offers some excellent advice on accepting pre-orders and how you can run a successful pre-order campaign. I think you’ll find it quite useful.

I hope this helps, but let me know if you have any further questions!
