how do you add a $2.50 handling charge in shopify as a seperate line item so the customer knows that also applies to the product they are getting. Or how to go about putting that charge on the online store.

If you’re using calculated shipping, then you can add a handling charge by marking up the calculated rates. However, this option will combine the handling fee with the shipping rate. That being said, if you need the handling fee to appear as a separate line item charge, then you can also consider using a third-party app to accomplish this. For example, UpCharge: Surcharge & Fees allows you to apply fees to specific products and it can display the fee as part of the order.
