How to add a simple image block to home page? Dawn theme

Topic summary

Goal: add a long, skinny image (approx. 1" x 6") to the Shopify Dawn homepage as a simple, non-clickable block. Existing sections feel too tall.

Suggestions offered:

  • Use the built-in Image banner section, remove all text/buttons, and upload only the image.
  • Steps shown via screenshots: Online Store > Customize > add Image banner > hide all blocks.

Current issue: when the 1" x 6" image is used in Image banner, it’s vertically stretched and then cropped on the sides, so the full width isn’t visible. The desired outcome is to display the entire wide image without cropping or extra height.

Context: The Image banner section (a standard Dawn section for large hero banners) appears to enforce aspect ratio/cropping not suitable for very skinny images. Screenshots provided illustrate the mismatch between current display and desired look.

Status: Unresolved. Guidance so far doesn’t address maintaining the image’s original slim aspect ratio within Dawn’s Image banner. Open need: a section/setting or code/CSS approach that displays the full-width, low-height image without cropping or vertical stretch, and without text or links.

I have a banner-like image I want to add to my homepage that is long and skinny. All the section options provided are too high. Does anyone have code I can add to enable inserting an image to my home page? Does not need to be clickable or have text.

Hi @BrittniRedekopp

I’m Dan from Ryviu: Product Reviews & QA

You can use the Image banner section and remove text and buttons from this section; just add the images only.

Best Regards,

Dan

Hi @BrittniRedekopp
You can try these step to achieve your result
Go to online storeClick customize >add Image banner sectioHide all block

Step1:

Step 2:

Step 3:

My image is 1"x6" so when I add it to the image banner, it adjusts to the height but can’t see the full width.

^ this is when I upload the image to image banner…

^this is what I want to see

My image is too skinny for the image banner section (1"x6"). It gets stretched vertically, then the edges of the image are cut off.
