How to add alt text to product images

Hi Shopify Community,

I noticed that my product images currently do not have any alt text. I want to improve accessibility and SEO by adding proper alt descriptions.

What is the best way to add alt text to each product image in Shopify (through the admin or theme editor)?

And is it worth taking the time to add it to every picture? Does it provide any real advantage?

To add ALT text in any product picture, just simply from the Shopify admin page,

  1. Go to Products
  2. Choose any product and click on it
  3. Then click on any product image and on the right side you will have an option to add ALT text

Amazing! And also for pictures in the description, as I can’t find any suggestions there…

For that, a little bit of coding knowledge would be required. All you have to do is just enable the code editor from the right hand side of the product description (after adding the image in the description) and you’ll find something like alt=""

Just simply enter your ALT text in the inverted commas and you should be good to go. I’ll also attach a screenshot for reference.
