How to Add an Image Banner to Each Shopify Collection Pages?

Topic summary

Main issue: Adding a unique image banner to each Shopify collection page; images were uploaded but not appearing.

Key guidance provided:

  • Upload the banner under Products > Collections > select collection > Collection Image (right sidebar). Save, view live, and clear browser cache.
  • If still missing, test with a fresh copy of the theme. If it works there, the current theme likely needs fixes. Seek support: Shopify (for free themes with design time), the theme developer (paid themes), or Shopify Experts.

Additional configuration step (crucial):

  • In Online Store > Customize, open the collection template, add/select the banner section, and set the image source on the right panel to “Collection image” so each collection pulls its own banner.

Open questions (unanswered):

  • Dawn theme: how to use a two-image banner layout and avoid it applying only to the default collection.
  • Recommended banner image dimensions/resolution to ensure proper fit.

Status: Partially addressed with steps; theme-specific layout and sizing guidance pending. Screenshots in the thread are central to following the setup.

How to Add an Image Banner to Each Shopify Collection Page?

I have already added but its not showing

Hi @nadiahadria ,

Thanks for reaching out!

If you’d like to display a banner image underneath the COLLECTION title, you have to upload it within admin. To do so, head over to your admin Products section, then click Collections. Next, please search for the desired collection, and once you’re in it, upload the image on the right-hand sidebar within the Collection Image tab as shown below.

Make sure to save changes and check if these changes have applied to the live store.

If you still don’t see the image on the live page, do please try clearing your browser cache to see if this helps.

If none of the above helps, your current theme could be the issue. You could install the fresh version of the theme to test if the same problem appears there. If the new theme displays the image, your current theme needs a closer look.

Our team may be able to look into this for you if you use Shopify free theme and your store has enough complimentary design time left. You can reach out to our Contact Us page at this link. Then log in to your store. It will allow us to verify you as the store owner securely.

Otherwise, if you are using a paid third-party theme, feel free to contact the theme developer to see if they can complete this customization. Also, you can post a job on the Shopify Experts Page and see what feedback and quotes you get.

By the way, I don’t know if you have anything planned for BFCM this year, but now is the time to prepare. BFCM is one of the biggest sales weekends of the year and sees the start of the holiday season as well. Every year my go-to is this BFCM Checklist. It allows me to make sure that I am making the best use of my time and resources, and it really helps take the pressure off by starting early. It is well worth the read should you be interested!

i had the same issue and came across this post, you explained well what needed to be done but didn’t cover what to do next. It took me some time and I figure it out by myself.

So after doing what you said with the picture toy are supposed to do these 3 steps in the Theme customization:

after selecting your banner image, go to the right side of the screen and select this for the image:

and just choose the Collection image like this:

Hello. For me, the image only goes to the default collection. I want to use the two-image feature. As seen in your pics. I am using the dawn theme. How do I do this?

Hi @Iris

Could you please provide me with the resolution or size requirements for the images that are best suited for the collection banner? I have noticed that when I add an image, it does not fit perfectly. Thank you.
