I will first throw out there that I am not a shopify pro and am still learning. lol I am needing clarification on how I get apps over to the unpublished 2.0 version of our theme…
We have a vintage theme that had the option to upgrade to the 2.0 version. So I installed and am editing (unpublished) to mirror our live vintage theme. The basics are good to go. But I am thoroughly confused on how to add all the apps we use before publishing it? I was told that they have to be re-added. So what exactly does that entail? Does this mean I have to publish the 2.0 theme, and then go find, install, and set up all of our apps again, while it’s live?!
I’m sure this is simple and I am just not connecting the dots. Any advice or direction would be much appreciated.

If you’re upgrading to an Online store 2.0 theme, then we’d recommend taking a look at the theme considerations suggested on our guide. As not all apps are compatible with Online store 2.0, we’d encourage checking with the app developers or taking a quick look at their app pages on the Shopify App Store.
It’s also important to point out that each app may be installed differently, as some apps wouldn’t require you to do anything while others require you to install snippets of coding to your theme files. For this reason, we’d encourage double-checking the installation instructions for each of your apps.
For apps that do require installing snippets of coding, you can do this without publishing the theme and see the integration through previewing the theme. However, for apps that don’t require you to do anything, you may need to publish your theme to check whether the integration is working. If you need further support with checking or installing the apps, then the app developers are always available to assist you - you can reach out to them directly via the contact information found in the Support section of their app pages.

Thank you for this information. I have been checking with the app support for adding snippets to the 2.0 theme version while working on setting it up. I am wondering if I publish the 2.0 version, and something isn’t working correctly, will I be able to go back and publish our older “1.0” theme without issues?
You can always go back and publish a different theme as long as you didn’t delete or upgrade the original theme. That being said, when you upgrade to a 2.0 theme, it doesn’t affect your older themes and they will still be functional vintage themes when published.
