How to add Multi language for USA English

Topic summary

Goal: Serve English by default, then show regional English (en_GB for UK, en_US for US) based on customer location.

Current guidance: Use Shopify Markets with the Translate & Adapt app to adapt English content per market. This is a manual process; automatic ā€œtranslationā€ or auto‑localization within the same language (e.g., UK vs US English) isn’t available. Reference doc link provided.

Pain points raised: A merchant managing multiple locales (e.g., Dutch for Netherlands and Dutch for Belgium) says provided translations cannot be imported and must be entered manually in Translate & Adapt. With ~30 products and ~100 variants, this is very time‑consuming. They request:

  • Ability to import translations (CSV) or a better bulk workflow.
  • Visibility of the original source text within Translate & Adapt to aid manual entry.
  • Easier handling of metafields, since unique IDs hinder CSV association.

Status: No confirmed workaround beyond manual adaptation. Key open questions: whether Translate & Adapt can support import/bulk editing, show original strings during editing, or streamline metafield mapping. No decisions or action items beyond the documentation reference.

Hi Team,

We need to add Multi language website. So we have to show English default and based on the location. If customer in UK shows en_GBR (UK English) and for US en_US (US English). Let us know the setup the language settings.

Hi @Kiran_Pyrite , this is done by adapting English by market. More here: https://beta-help.shopify.com/en/manual/markets/languages/translate-adapt-app#custom-content

This is done manually. Localising within one language is not available as an auto ā€˜translation’.

How are we supposed to do this via Translate & Adapt if we’ve been given the translations for a language that we don’t speak?

For example, we have a site that is in multiple languages. One language is Dutch for the Netherlands but we also have a Dutch for Belgium. I can’t speak either language and the translations in the Shopify import file can’t be imported so must be done through Translate & Adapt - correct?

Currently, I’m having to have the original product page open - search for the english in the ā€˜Default content’ column in the CSV then paste that into the Translate & Adapt. We’ve only got 30 products and about 100 variations but it’s going to take me hours & hours to do.

There must be a better / easier way? Even if Translate & Adapt allowed you to see the original language that would make it easier.

Metafield identification means that each one has a different ID so there’s no easier way to associate it in the Shopify CSV with the product that it goes with.

Or am I missing something?
