How to add packaging option without affecting inventory?

Can anyone please help?

On the product page, I want to add a variant “Select Packaging” with 2 options: Standard Packaging and Premium Packaging.

For premium packaging there are extra charges. When I add these two things, the quantities automatically get doubled.

For example, I have a ring in 2 colors and each have 6 quantities, I have a total of 12 rings. When I add the packaging option, shopify automatically increase the quantity to 24, because now Standard Packaging has 6 quantities and Premium Packaging has 6 for each color, which is not true. So how to add these options without affecting quantities?

I want to have 2 options for Packaging: Standard and Premium and when someone selects Premium, they will be charged extra. I did everything but couldn’t find any solution as it automatically assigns quantities to Packaging.

I have set up using Shopify’s in-built features only. I don’t use any third-party app. I have only “Color” variant so far for my products. For instance, if a ring has 2 colors, I have only one Variant named “Color” with the two options listed.

Now I want to add another Variant named “Packaging” but it affects the quantity. Hope I am able to explain it clearly.
