Hello! We recently switched to Shopify POS. It has been a struggle to line up the payouts to the daily sales for the accounting team. We noticed that Shopify bases each day on the UTC time zone instead of the time zone we are in. However, the daily sales reports are specific to the entire day in my time zone. The numbers don’t add up. Payouts going into our account don’t come anywhere close to matching what a daily sales total was. Has anyone had success with this?
Topic summary
Merchants using Shopify POS are struggling to reconcile daily sales reports with payment payouts due to time zone discrepancies. The core issue: Shopify processes payouts based on UTC time, while sales reports reflect the merchant’s local time zone, causing daily totals to misalign.
Key Problem:
- Daily sales reports use the store’s local time zone
- Payout schedules operate on UTC, creating cutoff mismatches
- For example, one merchant’s day ends at 11 PM locally but payouts cut off at 7 PM, making reconciliation with end-of-day reports impossible
Proposed Solutions:
- Verify store time zone is correctly set in Store Details settings (though users confirm this is already correct)
- Adjust payout schedules in Shopify Payments settings
- Use Shopify Analytics reports for accounting instead of transaction reports
Current Status:
The issue remains unresolved. Multiple merchants report ongoing accounting difficulties spanning several months, with no working solution identified. The suggested workarounds do not address the fundamental UTC/local time zone conflict in payout processing.
Hello, @Desserts .
Thank you for reaching out and bringing this to our attention.
I understand that the Shopify Analytics for your store isn’t matching up with the daily sales report on the Shopify POS due to the time zone differences. To resolve this, you can try changing the time zone for your store located in the Store details settings.
Once you’ve resolved the issue with reporting for your accounting team, I’d love to hear more about your business and share some resources to help you get started. What kinds of products are you selling? Do you have a marketing plan prepared for your store?
The time zone is already correct for our store location. Changing this would not correct the issue. How can I change the payout schedules to follow my time zone?
Hey, @Desserts .
Thank you for following up!
Changing the timezone will change the time shown on the orders and they are reflected in the reporting on Shopify Analytics - which you can share with your accounting team. However, while there isn’t a way to change the time zone from the transaction reports, you can schedule your payouts in the Shopify Payments settings.
If you’ve any other questions on this topic, don’t hesitate to let me know!
We are having this same issue. We do not have an on-line store. We have retail customers and open from 7 AM until 11 PM. Shopify payment systemcuts off my end of the day at 7 PM. I need this changed to 11:59 PM. With a 7 PM cutoff, my daily revenue and credit card revenue never match. Therefore, I cannot reconcile to my z-out report. This is a huge issue. Please let me know how I can change credit card processing to 11:59 PM. Thank you!
Did you ever find a resolution? This has made a mess of my accounting for the last several months…
I haven’t been able to figure out how to change time on the payouts! Help!!
@Doppelganger Have you figured this out? Seems like nobody has a solution on this forum still.
