I send a number of large items across the UK, but my courier applies various surcharges based on the postcode area. In addition to this, they apply surcharges on multiple shipments to the same address.
Within Shipping, what is the cleanest way to calculate postcode-driven shipping surcharges?
Is there also a way to add incremental fees for shipping, eg. one product = standard rate, two products = plus x amount etc?
Is there a way to have this visible to the client? Eg. “Delivery to your postcode incurs an x amount surcharge. This is a courier charge - and not from us” (better worded!)
I appreciate I might not get all of these - but the postcode zone pricing would be a great start!
Thank you.
Hey @NatalieFMW what you are looking for can’t be handled natively in Shopify. This type of shipping logic would need to be handled with a 3rd party shipping app (like Intuitive Shipping). The logic would a rate table that scales as product quantity is added with the description line. Intuitive Shipping can also handle zipcode based shipping within their SubZones.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Yeah, the previous reply is right - you 100% need an app for this. Native Shopify only does shipping zones by country/county, not specific UK postcodes. I use Advanced Shipping Rules on my store for exactly this, but Intuitive Shipping works great too.
One massive thing to watch out for: to use any of these shipping apps, your Shopify plan needs ‘Carrier Calculated Shipping’ (CCS) enabled. If you’re on the Basic plan, it’s not there by default. You have to contact Shopify support to add it. It’s $20/mo, or free if you switch your Shopify plan to annual billing.
For the custom message, both apps let you rename the shipping rate at checkout, so you can just name the rate ‘Standard Delivery (Includes Courier Postcode Surcharge)’.
I don’t think you can do it without an app, you can try using different apps to see which one suits your need the most, they should have trial version
Hi @NatalieFMW,
I totally agree with the points shared above, these kinds of postcode-based surcharges and incremental pricing aren’t natively supported in Shopify.
Just to add to this, you can handle this quite effectively using a shipping solution like the PluginHive Multi Carrier Shipping Label app. It allows you to set up postcode-based rules and also supports incremental pricing (fixed or percentage-based per additional item).
You can also tweak the service names at checkout to communicate these surcharges clearly to customers.
