How to automatically email customers about account creation after purchase?

Hey,

My customers are confused right now - after they place an order, they don’t know if they have an account or not.

Or they come back weeks later and try to sign in, assuming they have an account.

I see Shopify does not allow a customer to create an account in checkout, unless I force them to, which I don’t want to.

Has anyone ran into this issue? Any solutions?

Is there a way to send an automated email to any customer who purchases and does not have an account, just letting them know they have the option to go create an account?

Rio here from the Shopify Community team. It sounds like you may be using the classic customer accounts. You can switch to new customer accounts and it will generate an account for the customer automatically.

Steps:1. From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Checkout and accounts.

  1. In the Account experience section, click Edit.
  2. In the Login experience section, select one or both of the following options:
    • Show login link in the header of online store and at checkout: If you select this option, then a login link is displayed in your online store. The link is usually located in the store’s header, but the placement might vary depending on your theme. A login link is also displayed on the checkout page.
    • Require all customers to log in before checkout: If you select this option, then customers are required to log in before they can access the checkout.
  3. In the Choose which version of customer accounts to use section, select New customer accounts.
  4. Click Save.

We did test New Customer Accounts, but it did not work for our needs. We have some customizations that are needed in the customer account section. When you do New Customer Accounts - you lose all control of the customer account section.

That login wont even be on our URL anymore - it pushes to an outside URL.

Have you tried segmenting your customers to those who don’t yet have accounts, then sending them account invites? You can use one of the apps below to bulk invite customers who have not yet created accounts.

Invite Yard is free and has the option to auto-email customers who don’t create accounts after they purchase. I think it’s exactly what you’re looking for and should do the trick! While Wotio has a bulk invite feature it is a paid plan.
