Hi everyone,
I’m looking for a way to manage my product on Shopify so that any products out-of-stock are automatically pushed to the bottom. How can I do this?
Topic summary
Goal: automatically push out‑of‑stock products to the bottom of Shopify collections.
Proposed approaches:
- Custom JavaScript/theme code to re-sort products by availability on the storefront. A responder offered to review the store (via shared URL) or proceed through a collaborator request to implement it.
- Follow a step‑by‑step blog tutorial that shows how to sort products by availability with custom code (link shared).
- Install a collection‑sorting app from the Shopify App Store that can move out‑of‑stock items down; a search link was provided.
Considerations: Coding solutions require theme edits and testing; apps provide no‑code options but add dependencies.
Status/outcome: No resolution yet. Next steps are for the requester to either share access for custom implementation or try the linked tutorial or an app. Links are central to the guidance.
Hey @JollyJammies ,
We can achieve this using Javascript. You can share your store URL so that I can have a look at it, or it’d be better to allow us to send you collaborator request and make the changes. It’s completely upto you.
Cheers!

Here’s a blog post (not mine) that explains how to do it with a bit of custom coding: https://andreasvirkus.me/thoughts/sort-shopify-products-by-availability/
Also there are many collection sorting apps that do this and other things: https://apps.shopify.com/search?q=collection%20sort%20out%20of%20stock
