Gold jewelry pricing can be tricky because gold rates fluctuate daily.
If you’re selling 22K or 24K jewelry on Shopify, your pricing usually depends on:
• Current gold rate per gram
• Karat purity (22K = 91.6%, 24K = 99.9%)
• Weight in grams
• Making charges
• Profit margin
The standard formula most jewelry stores use is:
(Weight × Gold Rate × Purity) + Making Charges + Margin
For example:
If the 22K gold rate is 20,000 per gram
And the piece weighs 10 grams
Base gold value = 10 × 20,000 × 0.916
The real challenge is updating product prices whenever the gold rate changes.
Some approaches I’ve seen:
-
Manual updates daily
-
Using Shopify metafields for weight & purity
-
Custom scripts for dynamic pricing
-
Using a gold rate calculator logic to determine base value before applying margin
For quick base value calculations, I personally use a simple gold value calculator (https://goldratecal.com/) to check pricing before adjusting margins.
I’m curious how other jewelry store owners are handling daily gold fluctuations.
Are you automating it or updating manually?
Would love to hear your workflow.
