I have an existing store (1.0). I want to create a new version (2.0) to migrate to. The new version (2.0) will have the same products as 1.0, but a different theme, product pages, photos, and URL. I have to keep 1.0 in production until 2.0 is ready.
What is the best way to do this? Will I be charged for two separate accounts while 2.0 is in development? Will I be charged for two separate accounts once 2.0 goes live and 1.0 is no longer being used?
Hi there, will your products have different photos and descriptions? If your page, product, and blog content is not changing you can build this inside the same store - building the 2.0 theme in an unpublished state (one of the great advantages of Shopify).
If you cannot do that it would be recommended to have a partner assist you with a dev store (no time limit/no cost). Let us know if you need a hand.
In version 1.0, I have all the products set up – however in my website, I only use Shopify’s Add to Cart buttons on my own Wordpress product info page – so I don’t currently actually show any of the product pages anywhere.
So I’m thinking I can just flesh out my existing store with a theme and product photos, better descriptions, etc – and then link to the product pages from my Wordpress website – does that make sense?
Ok, so right now you have a WordPress front end that uses Shopify’s embeddable cart buttons (Buy Buttons), correct? If so then yes, you can do a lot of changes on the Shopify end with no impact - as long as you are not embedding the images/descriptions as part of the Buy Buttons too.
