How to bulk edit Google shopping fields e.g product catagory & custom labels etc

Topic summary

Goal: Bulk edit Google Shopping fields (product category, custom labels) for many Shopify products.

Available options mentioned:

  • Shopify Google channel: From the Google channel, open product status lists (approved/pending/not approved), select up to 25 per page, and use the Bulk Editor for Google fields. One user updated hundreds this way, but notes no search/filter, 25-per-page limit, and another user says edits didn’t sync to Google (similar to CSV edits).
  • Third‑party apps: ShoppingFeeder (maps attributes to Google feed spec, supports custom labels, connects to GMC—Google Merchant Center—and ad accounts, with optional campaign management). Ablestar Bulk Product Editor (in‑app or spreadsheet edits; free tier allows 5 in‑app and 5 spreadsheet edits/month; paid plan cited by a user at $19/month for full access).
  • CSV export/import: Suggested by one user, but others report Google fields aren’t present in Shopify’s product CSV after changes, making this approach ineffective for these fields.

Current state: Mixed results and frustration with native tools/limits and sync behavior. No confirmed, free, built‑in bulk method that reliably updates Google fields. Thread remains unresolved; a later post asks for updates.

Hi,

Just wondering how i can bulk edit all my google shopping fields?

I am mainly just wanting to add in the product catagory and custom labels for all my products.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Rachy

ShoppingFeeder offers a service that lets you map attributes and fields for your products to meet the requirements of the Google feed spec. You can add custom labels as needed, making it simple to group product categories for different campaign efforts. You can even create and run smart and standard shopping ads through the app once you seamlessly connect to your GMC and Ad account, or opt for the campaign management service that does everything on your behalf. Hello,

My name is Alison, and I’m the Customer Success Specialist for Ablestar apps. I’m sorry for the late reply on this, but I thought I would reach out in case you haven’t found a solution yet.

Our Bulk Editor app (https://apps.shopify.com/bulk-product-editor) will allow you to bulk modify the Google Shopping fields with either an in-app edit, or by uploading a spreadsheet that contains the data.

The app also has a free version that allows for 5 free in-app edits and 5 free spreadsheet edits a month. If you have any questions you can reach us at ‘[email removed].

Hi

There is a way to do this within Shopify. It is a bit limited for large number of products as you can only edit up to 25 products at a time.

If you click on the google channel you will see a page with product statuses - approved, pending and not approved. next to each of these is a link to the products with that status. This shows 25 products per page which can be paged through.

Against each product is a link to edit the fields. However you can sellect the check box against multiple or all products on the page and you can click on edit products at the top of the page.

This will take you to a Bulk Editor for the google fields where you can edit all of the selected products google fields.

Unfortunately there is now way to filter or search the products which would have been useful.

However I was able to change a couple of hundred products which required the custom product field checked fairly quickly.

It seems to work, but it doesnt update to google… so its the same as if youd bulk edit it in export through csv and import it…

There was one and it was terrible Now there is NOTHING. Shopify is a huge disappointment. Constant issues. I wish they charged more and just made the whole damn thing better to use.

To edit all the google fields you need to pay $19 a month which is more than half the subscription for shopify store owners. That doesn’t sound right. The 5 free in app edits run out when you have made an error and cancel the changes so not useful at all.

If you haven’t found a solution yet, heres a very simple free one:

  • Go to products and export all your products

  • Open that .csv file in a spreadsheet software like Google Sheets

  • Spreadsheets allow you to make changes in bulk

  • Reupload/import updated .csv product back into Shopify

You’re all set

The fields are not defined there. Shopify changed things around. It is very frustrating that they can’t make a simple interface that allows for bulk editing that isn’t time consuming. The whole platform needs a total redo in my opinion.

I tried the export method before and the google fields are not visible.

any update on this? having the same issue
