How to categorize blog posts without using tags?

Hi there,

I just wondered if there’s a way to categorise blog posts without using the Tags feature in the blog post editor?

Essentially I’d like to create a hierarchical categorisation system where the categories are added to the blog post via a checkbox (Year, Location etc with various years or locations listed beneath each) but the categories can be accessed in two locations within the same template (but with the merchant only needing to add the categories once).

Setting this up would be helpful as I need to be able to select which categories are outputted in particular parts of the templating (Location for example), as opposed to using the tags which wouldn’t be able to recognise the location when looping through the tags added (hope that makes sense!).

I’d really appreciate any hints or tips that can be offered here and many thanks in advance for any help or advise provided.

Can you tell or do you know if this blogging app is compatible with any Shopify theme, 2.0 or older? (I ask b/c I use the “old” Venture theme.)

Followup question: does this Blogging App enable a way to create a text-based “list” of the Categories somehow, or even a list that appears as buttons or something for improved User navigation…? I imagine it as either a Section at the top, or bottom above the footer at the end of an article, so people could see all the topics discussed on the blog. Or even better a “TAg Cloud” display fo the blog posts? I’m looking to import/transfer over about 50 of my Wordpress blogposts and want them to be well-organized by topic.
