I created several templates for my artwork (because they are mostly available in the sizes of the template (and the prices etc. are all the same).
When I choose a template (say 15x10) I always change the name to whatever the file is going to be called. But, I just noticed that when I go to the product directly on my Shopify Store it is listed as ‘copy-of-15x10-template’ instead of the name.
I’ve included a link to the Arizona Flag (below). Can anyone tell me how I get the link to display Arizona Flag (etc.) instead of the current ‘copy-of-15x10-template’?
I can see from your example URL what you are referring to. You can edit the product page URL by opening the product details in the admin and editing the SEO field at the bottom of the product details page. You can learn more about this here: Adding and updating products · Shopify Help Center.
Question: Since I’ve used Templates and Duplicated most everything from them - will I have to go through each product individually and change the URL fields etc. or is there some time of Universal code I can use that will force the URL to accept whatever Title I’ve given to the product in question?
Great question, I did some digging into this and I’ll be honest that I don’t have a super simple solution for bulk changing the product URLs. The best method I have found is to use the bulk editor in the admin to select the entire column of product URLs, delete the existing ones by using the delete key on your keyboard, which will automatically update the URL based on the product handle.
STEPS TO TAKE BEFORE MAKING BULK CHANGES: Please ensure you are making a backup of your product list by exporting all products to CSV before making any bulk changes. Bulk changes or changes made by uploading a CSV cannot be reversed once completed. Having a recovery file for your products is very important! Please review this video on how to export all products to CSV: How To Export Product CSV || Shopify Help Center - YouTube
Here are the steps for bulk editing your URLs:
Sign into your store admin and go to Products.
Select all products whose URL you want to update.
Choose “Edit Products” from the top of the list.
In the Bulk Editor view click on the Columns button in the upper right and choose URL Handle (SEO) from the bottom of the list.
In the URL Handle column, select the first cell so it is highlighted blue (see image blue). You can either use your mouse to click and drag on the small blue square in the bottom right of the cell to drag down and highlight the entire column, or you can use ctrl+shift+down arrow on your keyboard to highlight all the cells in the URL Handle column.
Once highlighted, click the delete key on your keyboard and all the existing URLs will be removed and automatically replaced with the text in the Product Title column (spaces will convert to dashes).
I have shared feedback on this feature with our developers for consideration and hopefully we will be able to integrate a more efficient method into the admin for this soon!
