How to correctly set up ONE.com settings for migrating to Shopify?

Hi all,

We’re looking to migrate to Shopify from Smoolis soon. Our website domain is managed via ONE.com and we’ve been trying to find a step-by-step guide on how to set up the ONE.com settings correctly for “pointing” to Shopify once we go live. Do you know of a guide that shows how to do this specifically in the ONE.com admin pages?

In particular, we’re concerned about making sure that our ‘Shopify’ subdomain does not get indexed, but that only our domain pages get indexed. We had some issues with this on our old platform. For example, we want to avoid getting https://store-name.myshopify.com indexed - as we want to make sure we only get https://store-name.com/ pages indexed on Google.

Thanks!

Hi @mfcss

Thank you for sharing your question in our community forums! I understand you want to know how to edit your DNS settings for your third party domain to ensure it points to Shopify. According to One.com you should be able to manage your DNS information for your domain from with your admin:

When editing your DNS settings you will want to make sure they align with the DNS information laid out in our Help Center: Adding third party domains.

  1. On your domain provider’s website, log in to your account.

  2. Find the DNS settings or domain management area.

  3. Change the following records:

    1. Point the A record to the Shopify IP address 23.227.38.65.
    2. If necessary, change the Host name to the @ symbol.
    3. Point the CNAME record with the name www to shops.myshopify.com.

It’s important to make sure you only have one A record in your DNS settings. Once the changes are made, it can take up to 48 hours for the domain to be fully connected to your Shopify store.

Once the domain is connected to your store you can set it as your primary domain and turn off domain redirection to the myshopify.com URL to limit indexing of that URL.

Let me know if I am able to help at all.

Here are instructions on how to manually point DNS records from 3rd party domain hosts to Shopify. Once you point a domain to Shopify, your store will load and be indexed as store-name.com

It’s worth reaching out to the one.com team they should help you with corrent setup.

Thanks for this input, appreciated!

Regarding the below:

can you clarify where this step would be done?

Hi @mfcss , I’d be happy to clarify that for you.

Once you have connected the domain to your Shopify store under Online Store > Domains, you will then change your primary domain to the new URL (away from the .myshopify.com), and just below your primary domain will be a link to enable/disable redirection. Generally we say to enable redirection, which takes customers going to your myshopify.com URL and instead sends them to your custom URL. The choice is entirely yours though.

When you are ready to connect your domain, our live support can go through the steps with you to ensure you get the setup you are looking for.

Thanks!
