Q: How do we create or add the free gifts to a purchase of certain amount?

This can be easily done when you use the BOGOS app:

1: "cart value condition" to set up the min and/or max spending amount customers have to qualify for your gifts.

2: "select gifts" -> select gift(s) that you want to offer

Q: how does the BOGOF work on the website?

A “Buy One, Get One Free” (BOGOF) promotion allows customers to buy one item and get another same one for free (as a gift). This flow can be done by 2 setup ways:

  • Shopify native discount > set up with “Buy X Get Y”. However, customers have to enter a discount code at checkout or manually add 2 of the item to cart to get the second one become free (not automatically add free item to cart)
  • BOGOS app > smooth shopping experience when customers add one item to cart → another same item will automatically added to cart and become free.

:glowing_star: To implement all of this, I highly recommend you using BOGOS—powerful Shopify promotion app (powerful promotions, advanced targeting, flexible gifting & discount options, easy UI customization,…). Try BOGOS (4.9 rating, 2k+ reviews) for 7-free days now

Hey @honeysscentedco :waving_hand:

You can set up both BOGOF and free gift using Monk easily. I am a part of the team behind it, here’s how you can do it:

With Monk, you can create a free gift campaign that automatically adds one or more gifts to the cart once a customer’s order meets a specific condition, for example, spending a certain amount, buying from a particular collection, or adding a set number of items, etc.

Unlike Shopify’s native “Buy X Get Y” discount (which requires customers to manually add the free item to the cart), Monk automatically adds the qualifying gift as soon as the conditions are met. You can choose to show the offer on the product page, cart, or even as a pop-up, and the gift will dynamically appear when the threshold is crossed.

When you intend to offer the same product as a gift, it is considered a BOGO offer. Using Monk, you can automatically add the same item to the customer’s cart as a free BOGO product. If your product has multiple variants such as sizes or colors, you can use Monk’s BOGO - Manual Select option to let customers pick their preferred variant before adding it to the cart.

You can also showcase banners on the product page, in the cart, or through a pop-up, using Monk, ensuring customers are aware of the promotion as they shop.

If you’re on Shopify Plus, Monk extends these capabilities to the checkout, allowing free gifts and BOGO offers to appear automatically in the final step for a seamless purchase experience.

hello, @honeysscentedco

Here’s how BOGOF / free gift setups usually work on Shopify, based on what I’ve seen across a few stores.

Most merchants handle BOGO or free gifts in one of two ways. Shopify’s native automatic discounts work for very simple Buy X, get Y offers, but they’re limited once you need more control. The more common approach is using app-driven logic, where the free gift is automatically added to the cart and removed if the qualifying product or cart value no longer meets the rule.

From experience, bundle-style setups tend to be the most reliable for this. For example, Shopify apps like Wizio Bundle for BOGO and free gifts flows where the gift is auto-added, rules are tied to products or cart value, and everything stays automatic without discount codes.

It’s not about one specific app though, the key is automatic validation + cart enforcement, otherwise BOGO offers get messy fast.
